Overview

This panel will explore common paths to board candidacy and practical tips in-house counsel should consider as they aspire to obtain a seat at the boardroom table. Recent studies show that women hold 15 percent of all board seats globally, and 14 percent of all board seats in the U.S.  Those numbers are increasing, but not nearly fast enough. We will have a stimulating discussion to examine how these women achieved their various directorships and hear their suggestions for professional growth. Undoubtedly, there are significant opportunities for women to hold more leadership roles in major organizations, and this panel will explore the trends and challenges surrounding the journey to the boardroom.

Learning points to be covered:
- How the board determines new members and how to shape relationships to get a seat at the table
- Dynamics of small non-profit boards vs. large corporate boards
- How to prepare for and host an effective board meeting
- The life cycle of a board
